Local farmers and rural communities really welcome you as a family member with a local language. Students need active learning as well as quiet learning such as reading and doing homework. Active learning involves asking and answering questions with farmers, solving problems and exploring interests on farming. Active learning also can take place when they play sports, spends time with friends. These experiences make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing potential for premier leadership, personal growth, and career success through agricultural education.
To many of us, harvest time is of little concern, because in our complex life we are far removed from the actual production of our food supplies. We think the real “feast” in our term would be something like to gather of things planted, a natural time of reaping in joy what has been produced during the year in our agricultural community. Good food can be at the center of a good life.
In the rural areas there is a shortage of personnel and a decrease in farming activities with abandoned areas of cultivation. We need to get young people excited about farming. We are an agricultural fraternity established with the purpose of making better men, and through them a broader and better agriculture. We are committed to providing positive interpersonal and professional experiences for its members, helping prepare them to be leaders in the food industry. Our mission is to support and promote the sustainability of farmers through education, outreach and advocacy efforts that increase accessibility to local food systems for all Nanbu people. Farm to School enriches the connection communities have with fresh, healthy food and local food producers by changing food purchasing and education practices at schools. Students and members gain access to healthy, local foods as well as education opportunities such as school gardens, cooking lessons and farm field trips. Farm to school empowers children and their families to make informed food choices while strengthening the local economy and contributing to vibrant communities. We often hear that farmimg is the really dirty tight and uninteresting work. This should be changed. We want to make suggestions for improved work in schools to improve the image of farming. Agriculture is also a splendid occupation. We want to inspire the brightest and best young people to take up a career in agriculture.
The farms welcome school and company groups from all Japan area. You can learn about agriculture as a whole. You get a chance to touch actual vegetables and fruits trees on land for the first time and ask rural farmers questions. It is a great opportunity for people who never get the chance to go out to a farm and see how the food is grown. You will also learn about benefits of local nutritious food.
